Solihull BID

The Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Solihull were the guests of honour at the official launch of the Birmingham & Solihull Jazz & Blues Festival.

Music lovers from across the borough joined Concillor Mike Robinson and Mrs Jenny Robinson to find out more about this year's Festival, which has been renamed to reflect the number of performances taking place in Solihull town centre.

The Broombusters performed a selection of classic cover versions at the launch party, held at Solihull's Holiday Inn hotel.

Performances in Solihull town centre take place from July 15th to 17th, while a host of other shows, demos and music workshops take place in Birmingham until July 24th.

the Birmingham & Solihull Jazz & Blues Festival, formerly the Birmingham Jazz & Blues Festival, is now in its 32nd year and has presented more than 5,800 performers to 2.5 million people.

The open-air Mell Square stage will be at the heart of the Solihull activity, with eight free shows over three days, accompanied with street food and a bar. Three bands are also playing over the weekend in the Touchwood shopping centre.

A musical express jazz train will run from the Touchwood entrance by Starbucks along the High Street to Mell Square. This will be great fun for children and will add a touch of muscial magic to the town centre.

Solihull's Jazz & Blues Festival performances are being arranged by Solihull BID (Business Improvement District)

Jazz & Blues Festival director Jim Simpson said: "We're delighted to welcome Solihull BID on board. The festival has long enjoyed a significant following in Solihull and their excellent Jazz Festival certaintly built on that, so it seems eminently logical to move forward with Solihull taking its proper place in this well established and important festival."
