Human Resource professionals from organisations across the private, public and not-for profit sectors in Solihull, Greater Birmingham, Coventry and Warwickshire took part in an event organised by the Birmingham Branch of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).
The theme of the evening, held at the Holiday Inn close to Birmingham Airport, was the ‘Good Recruitment Charter’ and was presented by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation’s (REC) Regional Director, Susie Ankrett, Director of Plum Personnel Ltd in Solihull.
The audience was given insight into how ‘The Good Recruitment Campaign’ helps organisations benchmark their current recruitment methods and reinvigorates their strategies in order to attract the right candidate.
“A recent survey stated that 41% of organisations that had made a bad hire had cost them over £20,000 and 25% stated that a bad hire had cost the organisation over £40,000. The risk of not getting the right employee is a waste of management time. The ongoing challenge for organisations is the attraction and retention of talent against the backdrop of a skill and talent shortage.” said Susie.
The Good Recruitment Campaign is designed to support employers in their wider commitment to attract, develop and retain talented people for their future success. Signatories to the Charter have the opportunity to gain insight and views from peers at other organisations.
Susie gave an overview of the recruitment sector and the people market demonstrating that as the talent crisis escalates, organisations that have a well-defined employer brand and world class recruitment process are going to be the ones that are best positioned to succeed.
The Good Recruitment Charter has been devised by employers for employers and led by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation, the professional body for the UK’s recruitment industry.
The initiative is led by a collaboration of businesses that are continuously working towards improving the performance of their organisation and recognise the benefits of implementing The Good Recruitment Charter and seeing its positive contribution to a highly effective people strategy.
Maxine Salmon who is a member of the CIPD Birmingham Branch Committee lead the organisation of the event and commented, “Recruiting the right talent is important for any organisation, but doing it in the right way is key. The Good Recruitment Campaign is an excellent way to bring together like-minded HR professionals to share knowledge and help create strategies to become as successful as possible in the attraction and hiring of people.”
More than 200 organisations employing more than 2 million staff in the UK have signed the Good Recruitment Charter since the campaign launched, pledging to promote diversity and inclusion, offer flexible working arrangements, provide an excellent candidate experience and lead the way to promote ethical and professional recruitment practices.
