NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP WEEK CELEBRATIONS – VISIT BY LORELY BURT, MP AND SOLIHULL COLLEGE EMPLOYMENT AND SKILLS TEAM
Solihull MP Lorely Burt visited Solihull’s Plum Personnel to help celebrate the 2015 National Apprenticeship Week and to meet apprentice Saffron Wright who has recently joined the team at Plum Personnel.
National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) is designed by the National Apprenticeship Service to celebrate apprenticeships and the positive impact they have on both young people and businesses.
Saffron Wright who is ambitious to become a Recruitment Consultant briefed Lorely about the day-to-day experiences of her apprenticeship and how she is gaining valuable ‘on the job’ experience.
Also joining the celebrations were Jabeen Choudhury and Debbie Hughes from the Employment and Skills team at Solihull College who are dedicated in providing Apprenticeship opportunities for young people.
Vanessa Brooman, the Branch Administrator at Plum Personnel commented “An apprenticeship is a fantastic alternative to College or University for young people and can provide a genuinely worthwhile and meaningful entry in to a rewarding career. We are truly delighted to have Saffron as a member of our team.”
National Apprenticeship Week ran from 9 to 13 March 2015 with the aim of raising awareness of the role apprenticeships play in equipping people of all ages with the skills employers need to grow and compete.
Lorely said, “Apprenticeships are at the heart of the Government’s drive to equip people with the skills employers need to grow and compete. Nearly every employer that takes on an apprentice reports benefits to their business from improved productivity, products or services through to the introduction of new ideas to the organisation.”
Apprenticeships are becoming increasingly recognised as the gold standard for work-based training and are growing in popularity as they help deliver results for businesses and new recruits alike.
Susie Ankrett, Director of Plum Personnel commented, “Apprenticeships offer young people the chance to learn a trade, to build their careers as well as giving businesses such as ours a wide range of benefits and a truly talented workforce that will really assist us in achieving Plum Personnel’s longer-term objectives and our future success.”
Saffron Wright joined Plum earlier this year said, “The Apprenticeship is my chosen alternative to university and has given me confidence in my own abilities. I work closely with my College Assessor to choose the subjects which had a direct impact on my day-to-day role, such as communication skills, as well as others which developed me on a personal level, such as presentation skills.”
Apprenticeships are helping companies across the UK by equipping people of all ages with skills beyond the classroom. Last year, the number of people taking up Apprenticeships topped 500,000 for the first time as more and more businesses took on apprentices to help them address the country’s skills shortage and aid recovery from recession.
