August 1st - August 31st
This summer Solihull BID are teaming up with Touchwood, The Core and Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council to go back in time. Join us on an adventure down memory lane as part of our exciting Postcard From Solihull event.
Throughout August, you are invited to follow our trail around the town centre to see images and insights into what Solihull looked like going back to the early 20th century. McDonald's visitors will see that they are munching burgers on the site of the old Post Office, whilst a full High Street image taken in 1940 - which will be displayed in Touchwood - shows a very different picture to the town centre we see today.
You’ll also have the chance to take part in a guided tour through the heart of Solihull ‘village’, taking you on a journey through history for an hour. The walk is pedestrianised throughout and is suitable for wheelchair users, to book and find more information go to www.facebook.com/solihullcentrallibrary. The Core will also be home to some fabulous old fashion games which will see kids and their older relatives having fun together so do check their website to find out more.
Researchers at the Library discovered a game played in town centres many years ago. Children are encouraged to follow a trail to find items in shop windows which do not belong there, hence the title 'Cuckoo In The Nest'. The rogue items can then be identified to be in with a chance to win a prize.
Take a trip down memory lane and stir those nostalgic thoughts throughout August this year. We want you to share your memories too and we're asking you to fill in a postcard at the Touchwood information desk which will then be shared with others. For more information, keep an eye on the Solihull BID website. We look forward to going back in time with you!
