Solihull town centre will come alive with colour as activities for all ages are held to celebrate Diwali.
Celebrate the Festival of Light on Friday, November 1st and Saturday, November 2nd, with family events at The Core and around Touchwood, including in the tipi in Theatre square, which will host Diwali story-telling, neon face painting and glow in the dark mini-hanging sculptures.
The events are being held in partnership between Solihull BID, Art at the Heart, Solihull Council, The Core and Touchwood. Many events are free to attend, while some require a small fee. Visit thecoretheatresolihull.co.uk/ for full schedules and booking details.
There will be workshops in shadow puppet-making; dance and performance; glowing sculptures and an illustration competition to help visualise a scene from the Diwali story – The Golden Deer/Search for Sita/Battle for Lanka. Winning artwork will be judged by a guest expert and used in promotional material in future festivals. Four dance workshops will also take pride of place in Touchwoods atrium throughout the day on Saturday from Dance Xchange and Dance Sansaar.
Visitors could take part in creating a giant community light sculpture which will transform into a Diwali character, try on a sari or just sit back and soak-up the dance and story-telling throughout the two days with themed authentic Indian food served from Encore Cafe Bar at The Core.
Melanie Palmer, CEO, Solihull BID, said: “We are delighted to join in the Diwali celebrations this year and looking forward to seeing the amazing creative workshops with puppets, dance and much more. This is an event for the whole family to enjoy and once again will see the Solihull town centre coming together with community spirit.”
