GANT is reclaiming preppy style, a look it pioneered 70 years ago that still continues to be a timeless fashion trend today. For fall/winter 2020, GANT has gone back through its archives, from the 1950s to the present, finding campaign images and garments showcasing the durability and versatility of the brand’s clothes—garments that handle weather challenges in both the city and the country. This preppy outdoor look is inspired by hiking and its aesthetic of smart, functional design and clever layering.
Born in New Haven, Connecticut in 1949, GANT’s heritage is forever intertwined with the American East Coast. From sailing the majestic Cape Cod National Seashore, to colorful fall hikes in the wilderness of the North East, the brand has always been connected to and inspired by the beauty and the traditions of America’s great outdoors.
“We have created a collection that really showcases our preppy heritage,” says Karen Vogele, EVP of Product and Design. “Iconic pieces such as the Heavy Rugger, Varsity Jacket and Cable Kit are presented in beautiful fall shades and premium fabrics, while eye-catching patterns such as tartan, paisley and the GANT Icon G adorn blazers, pants and shirts for a bold take on tailored classics.”
Key Colors and Prints
The color palette for the season is inspired by the soaring mountain ranges, lush autumnal foliage and exotic coastal wetlands of America’s East Coast. Emerald green, vibrant orange, mustard yellow and dusky pinks and purples compliment the neutral camel and beige shades seen throughout the collection.
Bold seasonal checks play a significant role this season. Flannel tartan makes for a striking colorful statement just when the weather gets cold. Herringbone prints in warm, chocolate tones provide an eye-catching base on which to layer a tweed blazer from the renowned English mill, Marling and Evans.
First Seasonal Drop
Inspired by life in Boston and the active lifestyle of East Coast residents, this collection is infused with hiking references that pair together a modern office look—perfect for a morning walk to work beside the harbor. Bold graphics
and all-over patterns mixed with premium materials work well with a pair of hiking boots or loafers and can be seen throughout the range.
Second Seasonal Drop
Serving as inspiration for this collection is a train ride to Maine and a fall hike through Acadia National Park. There’s no better time to see the mountains still ablaze with rich fall colors, just as the first snowfall dusts the trail. Highlights include strong knitwear and colorful outerwear to keep you ready for anything the weather may have in store.
Picture ending the new year at a beautiful cabin upstate, where you’ll ring in the new year with old friends. Creative styling allows for a look that’s smart, preppy and warm. Beautiful tailoring and premium dresses are layered with
functional, colorful outerwear, knitwear and warm boots to shrug off the winter chills.
The GANT Fall/Winter 2019 collection will be available in stores and online from September 2020.
