COLUMN BY MELANIE PALMER, CEO OF SOLIHULL BID, WHICH FEATURED IN THE SOLIHULL OBSERVER
If you go down to the woods today you are sure of a big surprise… 'The Woods' is the latest new opening on Solihull’s High Street: an amazing coffee shop ran by partners Luke and Curtis and it’s like entering an enchanted forest, a magical haven with toasties, cakes and damn fine coffee.
Speaking to the new proud owners (and their fabulous mums who have joined them on their new enterprise), it’s instantly clear to see they have a passion for what they do and they intend to make a roaring success of it. I can’t wait to take my grandson in to select his picnic (which goes into the cutest little wicker hamper) and treat myself to a toastie and cuppa.
Suddenly it seems Solihull has woken up to the needs for not only independent traders who are simply queuing to get in, but also on an awareness of the need for places that accommodate children and families. The Magic Bean Coffee Shop further along the High Street does just that, with an innovative play area with Perspex viewing wall so parents and carers can enjoy a coffee whilst the kids let off steam and play. A simple but effective solution helping to get some 'you' time back in the diary.
Just when you think things couldn’t get any better, sailing around the corner in a grand oh la la opening next week is the wonderful Côte Brasserie. Les enfants can nibble on haddock goujons whilst you peruse la menu with a petit French 75 (champagne, gin, sugar and lemon). The inimitable Parisienne chic finally va va vooms into place on the High Street near to the ever busy Carluccio’s.
Death of the High Street? Non, non, mon petit ami, Solihull c’est une fete de la vie!
