The Role

To be one of the recognised ambassadors for a safer and more secure Solihull. Working closely with the BID team and key partners to deliver business support and deter crime across all sectors. The successful candidate will be responsible for communicating the BID brand and range of projects we offer to all sectors and levels of management within those sectors and be a pro-active team member for all areas of the BID involved in business crime prevention.

Key responsibilities:

· Be a key ambassador for Safe and Secure project areas in Solihull.

· Be a key member in helping Solihull businesses deter and report crime.

· Regularly patrol the BID area specifically covering all areas and sectors. This is a physically demanding job which requires large amounts of walking outdoors in all weathers.

· Be the welcoming face in the town helping all visitors where you can.

· Be an active and supporting partner to the local Policing team.

· Street Wardens must take an active role in the management of any rough sleepers and beggars.

· Report any incidents of crime, suspicious activity or anti-social behaviour accordingly through the relevant channels.

· The role is not to become physically involved with violence or other incidents unless there is a real danger of severe harm to persons or property and only then when it falls within their training and does not put them or their partner in any physical danger.

· Street Wardens will be mindful of the safety of themselves and those around them at all times.

· To actively encourage businesses to join in with our retail crime forum, stock loss prevention training and DISC reporting app.

· To be a visual active presence in the town, sending the clear message that we have zero tolerance for crime of any sort in the town centre.

· To take part in events and festivals and assist in any other areas of the BID projects when called upon to do so.

Other general roles and responsibilities

· Ensure all required admin is accurate and appropriate.

· Work as part of the wider team delivering high quality support to BID businesses and the BID team.

· Adhere to the company’s policies and procedures at all times.

· Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of your work.

· Communicate effectively with colleagues, managers, and other professionals, both in writing and verbally.

· Be able to fluently converse with our BID businesses and build rapport with the employees and visitors to the area. Visit and convey project details when needed/requested.

· Ensure all critical issues are reported to the management team ASAP.

· Be a conduit between businesses and develop opportunities for them to help one another.

· Present DISC to new staff and businesses and sign up and train.

· Be aware of activity around them at all times. Focus on the job role at all times.

· Work with businesses to ensure involvement in BID events and projects.

· Be a reassuring support to retail and office teams.

· Provide effective distraction walk through visits for shops and centres.

· Understand the general crime scene involving shoplifting , pickpockets, ASB etc

· Update the management team if there are any concerns, including update on any faulty equipment, radios, footwear etc.

Key skills and qualifications

Essential skills required:

· Be able to communicate clearly and confidently to all key partners and the public.

· Have excellent organisational skills and strong attention to detail.

· Be able to demonstrate the ability to work as part of a busy team.

· To be able to demonstrate clear, effective communication skills and excellent oral and written English skills.

· Demonstrate positive values in line with equal opportunities legislation.

· Be flexible in working hours and supporting the team.

· Be able to patrol on foot for approximately two square miles for 8 hours per day in all weather.

It would be beneficial if you already have an SIA badge and experience in the retail security sector but it is not essential. The right candidate will be given the relevant training.
