Following its successful Purple Tuesday event in partnership with Age UK, Scope, the Alzheimer’s Society and Shopmobility, Touchwood is pleased to announce its support of the Sunflower Lanyard initiative, as part of the centre’s drive to ensure it remains welcoming and accessible to all.

The Sunflower Lanyard features the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower, which enables the wearer to subtlety indicate that they have a hidden disability, and may need additional assistance when out and about.

The lanyards are available free of charge at Touchwood from the information desk on Crescent Arcade and all those who request one will be offered a lanyard, no questions asked.

Tony Elvin, General Manager at Touchwood, explains: “The whole team here at Touchwood prides themselves on making sure our centre is always welcoming and accessible to all. We are passionate about making real changes to ensure all our guests have the best experience possible when shopping or dining with us.

“We are proud to support the Sunflower Lanyard scheme, as it offers the perfect extension to the successful initiatives we already have in place to ensure a welcoming environment, such as our Quiet Hour, and support of important initiatives including Purple Tuesday and National Autistic Society’s Autism Hour campaign.

“I encourage anyone who feels a Sunflower Lanyard would be of assistance to them, to pick one up from our information desk.”

Touchwood currently provides a number of accessible facilities including its Shopmobility service offering the hire of scooters and wheelchairs free of charge, as well as implementing a weekly ‘Quiet Hour,’ where lights in all main areas of the centre are dimmed, music turned is off and tannoy announcements are kept to a minimum.
