The team at Touchwood is celebrating after winning a quartet of awards across a range of categories at the Solihull Chamber of Commerce Awards 2019.

The centre took home the award for Outstanding Contribution to the Community for its ‘Power of Collaboration’ initiative, which saw it strive to use its influence and resources to be a force for good on a number of different levels; from helping to tackle local crime levels, addressing the growing issue of homelessness, nurturing new small businesses, and promoting a culture of diversity and inclusiveness.

Tony Elvin, General Manager at Touchwood also picked up the Solihull Business Person of the Year award in recognition of his accomplishments at the centre over the last 18 months. Since taking up the position of General Manager, Tony has focused on further enhancing the diversity, accessibility and customer service that the centre offers, to ensure all those who visit have positive experiences, feelings and memories associated with Touchwood.

To complete the quartet, Touchwood’s independent restaurant, Jamaya, was crowned Solihull Business of the Year and Outstanding Start-Up Business of the Year. Judges praised its dedication to its loyal customer base and commitment to authentic Jamaican food, as well as its achievement in securing more than 110 five star reviews on TripAdvisor in its first year of opening.

Tony Elvin, General Manager at Touchwood, comments: “We are really proud of the work we do here at Touchwood, whether it’s creating a place that’s welcoming and accessible to all, supporting the community in which we live or simply offering a fantastic place to shop or dine, which is why we are thrilled to have been recognised by the Solihull Chamber of Commerce. I’d like to thank all our employees, retailers, restaurants and partners in helping us to achieve this.

“I’d also like to offer a huge congratulations to the team at Jamaya. The restaurant offers a fantastic dining experience, so I’d urge anyone who hasn’t been to try it for themselves!”

The Solihull Awards 2019 are hosted by the Solihull Chamber of Commerce. The 2019 awards were hosted by BBC Radio Derby’s Donna Alos.
