The team at Touchwood is celebrating after winning an accolade at the International Green Apple Awards 2018 for Environmental Best Practice, for the third year running.
The centre took home gold for the Retail and Wholesale Energy Reduction category, after being recognised for its host of energy efficiency projects. Managed by the Touchwood leadership team, the centre has developed an energy management system to identify the centre’s energy uses in order to make significant savings.
The new management system has delivered a 21% reduction in electricity over the last year, as well as a 60% decrease in gas use. This activity has also seen the centre being awarded the ISO 50001 certification for energy management making Touchwood the first shopping centre in the UK to achieve the standard as a single premises.
Tony Elvin, General Manager of Touchwood, comments: “Large businesses such as ours have a responsibility to the environment and at Touchwood it’s a responsibility we take very seriously. We are passionately committed to reducing our impact on the environment by developing and implementing projects in reducing energy consumption. We are very proud that our efforts have been recognised by Green Apple, and would like to say a huge thank you to everyone at Touchwood for getting behind the initiative.”
