Guests will be able to take a walk down memory lane at Touchwood this summer, as the centre takes part in the exciting ‘A Postcard from Solihull’ event.
Partnering with Solihull BID, The Core Library and Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, Touchwood will be stirring the nostalgia of its guests as it reminisces about the bygone days of Solihull.
Throughout August, guests will find a classic Chesterfield sofa on Poplar Arcade; take a seat and pick up the vintage-looking phone to hear residents of the Metropolitan Borough muse on Solihull’s past. Make sure you follow up with a stroll down Manor Walk to see a one-off installation of floor vinyls replicating the old high street, and you can also head to the Information Desk to pick up a postcard and fill in your very own special memories of the town.
As part of the event, guests can also follow a trail around the town centre to experience what the area was like as far back as the early 20th century. A guided tour through the heart of Solihull ‘village’ will also be taking place, transporting participants back in time for an hour-long walk.
The Core will host an array of old fashioned games for young and older generations to enjoy. Plus, keen explorers can take part in ‘Cuckoo in the Nest’. A game historically played in town centres, children are encouraged to follow a trail to find items in shop windows which don’t belong there. Identify the rogue items to be in with the chance of winning a special prize!
Lucy Burnett, Marketing Manager at Touchwood, comments: “We’re delighted to be participating in this touching project and going back in time with the rest of the local community. Solihull has such a rich heritage, so it’s really exciting to be able to share the town’s history with our guests.
“Make sure you stir up those nostalgic thoughts this August and note down your memories on the postcards at the Information Desk, we are really looking forward to reading them.”
