We are immensely proud of our two square miles of success and the inspirational people who make it work. Please find out how to nominate your business and staff for this year’s awards below!
To apply online, please download the relevant form to the right and once completed, please e-mail melanie@solihullbid.co.uk and lisa@solihullbid.co.uk along with any supporting evidence you would like to be considered.
You are welcome to apply for more than one award but each application must be submitted using separate forms.
Deadline for entries (in person or by e-mail) is midday on Friday, 22nd September. Any entries received after this time will not be accepted.
Shortlisted entries will be asked to attend an informal interview with our independent judges to go over their applications in more detail. Interviews are scheduled for the week of October 16th.

Our Excellence Awards evening takes place at the beautiful voco St John’s on Friday, November 24th.
We have always kept ticket prices as low as possible to make the event as accessible as we can for all to join the celebrations.
Tickets cost just £45+VAT per person with tables seating ten people. Your ticket includes a three-course dinner, drinks on table, live entertainment and the awards presentation.

Mark has extensive leadership experience across education, local and national government. He has been a teacher and head teacher in a variety of special schools between 1985 and 2001. Subsequently, in local government, he became a Director of Children’s Services (Solihull 2006-09) and twice a Chief Executive (Solihull 2007-14 and Birmingham 2014-17).
Following 15 months of consultancy work with KPMG and CollaborateCIC, in June 2018 Mark became Director General for Children, Young People, Education and Skills for the Government of Jersey. In January 2022, Mark moved back to Solihull to become Chief Executive of the Leadership Centre and to give more time to the Care Leaver Covenant whose advisory board he has chaired since its inception in 2018.
Oli is CEO of TikTok marketing agency, Nonsensical. They specialise in helping brands get started on TikTok through to creating content that just works on the platform. They have developed an innovative solution called TikTok on Demand which connects brands with a number of engaging presenters who can turn around content from a brief in just a few hours. Nonsensical also owns and operates a number of its own communities such as Endless Mythology (280k), Endless Pride (210k) and Birmingham Updates (800k).
Alethea the Deputy Chief Executive for the Police and Crime Commissioner in the West Midlands, and one of the most senior black women in policing governance.
Her background and extensive experience lies in local government, police governance and accountability, strategic policy development, commissioning and their legislative frameworks. Her current role includes assisting the PCC in holding the Chief Constable to account, fostering collaboration and partnership activity with statutory and voluntary bodies across the West Midlands – both regionally and nationally, and leading and managing an effective and efficient office.
She graduated from University of Birmingham with a Master’s Degree in Public Management and Leadership, her passion lies in community and voluntary sector involvement and co-production in the work that impacts hugely on the communities that we serve that brings ideas, people and inspiration to life.
Alethea is also a Director for the Coventry Caribbean Association Limited, a Trustee of the Finham Multi Academy Trust, and a Trustee for the Heart of England Community Foundation, having been a school governor for 10 years and a Chair of governors for 5 years.
Sir Nigel John Thrift is a British academic and geographer. In 2018 he was appointed as Chair of the Committee on Radioactive Waste Management, a committee that gives independent scientific and technical advice on radioactive waste to the UK government.
He is a Visiting Professor at the University of Oxford and Tsinghua University and an Emeritus Professor at the University of Bristol.
Sir Nigel was the executive director of the Schwarzman Scholars, an international leadership program at Tsinghua University in Beijing. He was also the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Warwick from 2006 to 2016.
He is a leading academic in the fields of human geography and the social sciences, and as a local Silihillian is a fantastic addition to our judging panel.
Marcia McLaughlin was born in Jamaica and moved to the UK in 1971. Marcia’s career within the media includes lead roles at the Evening Mail and Midland Independent.
As a bright entrepreneur she established and self funded the now iconic Phoenix Newspaper, which is represented across the globe. The Phoenix is a patron of the Birmingham Commonwealth association, and the Commonwealth African Summit. The Caribbean Tourism organisation partnered with the Phoenix for the 9th Anniversary Gala dinner and awards 2019 with was a spectacular event attended by over 600 guests.
Marcia is recognised as an inspirational leading figure in society who has created community cohesion through the powerful message of truth, love and respect.
